The Tri-M Music Honor Society is the international music honor society for middle/junior high and high school students. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership.
Attendance Policy:
Members’ attendance is required at all chapter meetings and mandatory concerts, except when excused by chapter advisors for illness, family emergency, or required school activities (as per Grosse Pointe South guidelines for extra-curricular activities). A member’s first absence in a given academic year will result in that member being put on probationary status. The member will be formally notified of their probation by the executive committee and/or chapter advisors. A second absence in a given academic year will result in a member’s dismissal from the chapter.
If a member is not present at the time in which attendance is taken in the ordinary course of the meeting, the member shall be deemed to have an unexcused absence. The Composer’s Concert is considered a mandatory concert. Senior members must be present at the Composer’s Concert to receive the honorary Tri-M cord unless such absence is excused by the chapter advisor. For all other members, and unexcused absence for the Composer’s Concert shall be considered and unexcused absence for the following academic year.
Continued Eligibility:
Members and their eligibility for Tri-M membership shall be reviewed on an annual basis to consider their continued participation in the Tri-M program.
The review shall confirm the member’s enrollment in a Grosse Pointe South High School music ensemble for the current school year and that the member has maintained for the previous semester at least a 3.5 average grade or equivalent in music, with at least a 3.0 average grade or equivalent in other academic subjects.
Application:
Auditions for Tri-M occur twice a year. Once in the early fall and once again in late spring. Students must have earned 125 points based on attached application to be eligible to audition.
